How to Clean EVA Mats and Use Them Through Winter
Snow, road salt, sand and wet footwear make winter demanding on any vehicle floor. A short cleaning routine helps EVA mats keep doing their job and prevents residue from building up inside the cells.
Routine dry cleaning
- Park safely, switch off the vehicle and move the seat back for access.
- Release any factory fasteners before lifting the mat.
- Keep the mat as level as practical while it is still inside the vehicle.
- Outside the vehicle, shake out loose debris or use a vacuum on the cells.
Dry cleaning is often enough for sand, crumbs and dust. Removing loose material before rinsing also keeps grit from being spread across the surface.
Rinsing water and road salt
Use clean water to rinse the cellular surface. A mild automotive or household detergent can be used when plain water does not remove the residue. Avoid harsh solvents, stiff metal tools and aggressive scraping.
Rinse until visible salt and soap are gone, then let the mat drain. Reinstall it only when it is clean enough to handle and will sit flat in its intended position.
Winter habits that help
- Empty collected meltwater before the cells become heavily filled.
- Knock loose snow from footwear before entering the vehicle.
- Check the driver's mat after cleaning to confirm it is locked into compatible fastening points.
- Inspect edges and the heel area periodically for wear or damage.
- Never place a new mat on top of another floor mat.
What not to do
Do not fold a mat full of water toward the cabin, reinstall a mat that can slide under a pedal, or use a damaged fastener. Avoid relying on colour alone when reassembling a set: return each vehicle-specific piece to the footwell it was made for.
If a mat no longer lies flat, cannot be secured or interferes with vehicle controls, stop using it and contact EVATECH before driving.
Longer-term storage
Clean and dry the mats before seasonal storage. Store them flat or with a gentle curve rather than under sharp, heavy objects. Keeping the set away from cutting edges helps preserve its shape and cellular surface.
